This project was commissioned by The Guys & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, with an initial design concept in collaboration with PriestmanGoode. The pods were Highly Commended in the Best Interior Product category at the Building Better Healthcare Awards 2011. |
|
The project involved the design and delivery of a number of iPoint Display Pods for both Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals. The pods act as a base for their volunteers who act to guide those who are unfamiliar with the hospitals to their destinations.

When in use the pods open up to reveal desk space with fold-out chairs contained below. When plugged in they can be illuminated and have power points and network access and a phone.
When not in use everything folds away to leave the self-contained unit which can be locked by combination, with a key override.
The pods can be mobilised as required by attaching a specially designed trolley to the back. Each pod can then be flipped onto its back and wheeled around the hospitals like a hospital bed, fitting into the service lifts for ease of transportation between floors.
