Designing a 5m tall framework to support 300 full-size dining plates to take the form of a huge Christmas tree was an interesting prospect, with more than a few challenges involved.

As well as the required plates alone weighing in at almost a quarter of a tonne, they had to be added and removed quickly and easily, while also allowing for incorporating programmed illumination.

The framework needed to be lightweight for ease of quick assembly and disassembly while taking the full load of the plates when assembled. Ease of packing down for delivery to and from site was another critical factor for the design.
